Project:
For the overall project "Innovative starch-based protection of historical metal structures and metal building components (StarkMetall)", the requirements for coatings and decoatings for metal objects are being determined, tested in practice and evaluated.
The aim of the "StarkMetall" project is to develop a coating process based on renewable raw materials. This process should be analogous to the powder coating process, whereby the base material consists of a starch-fatty acid ester. In the sub-project, which is being carried out at Mylau Castle, the focus is on the formulation, evaluation and, if necessary, adaptation of parameters with regard to surface application on metal objects on site. The process to be developed should fulfil the requirements from a conservation point of view as well as meet the needs of the permanent use of a publicly accessible architectural monument.
"StarkMetall" is a research project of the pilot project "Vogtlandpioniere", which is coordinated by the industrial research institution INNOVENT e.V. and funded as part of the "WIR! - Wandel durch Innovation in der Region" programme of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The aim of the funding programme is to strengthen the capacity for innovation within economically underdeveloped regions in order to create long-term.
