Mylau Castle Museum
Discover a unique place with a special history!
The history of the museum's holdings is varied. Originating from the collections of natural history societies, they were later supplemented by artefacts collected by the nobility and contemporary art from the region. Furthermore, original artefacts tell of the castle's eventful history.
Two important pieces of information for your visit
- Please use the car parks at the foot of the castle (market, at the church, Burgstraße, Friedenshain). There are no car parks directly at the castle or in front of the castle gate.
- Please note our special opening hours.
Here you will find information on opening hours, special opening hours, admission prices, accessibility & assistance, car parks and directions.
The heritage-protected Mylau Castle is the only almost completely preserved and largest castle complex in the Saxon Vogtland region, making it an outstanding architectural monument and the museum's most important exhibition object. The collections of the cultural history museum in the castle are among the oldest museum collections in the Saxon-Vogtland region.
Museum presentation of the collection
Behind the scenes, the museum houses an almost endless collection of historical artefacts. Some of them are presented to all visitors in the permanent exhibition. The themes are explored in greater depth in ever-changing special exhibitions, but the museum also offers space to artists from the region in special exhibitions.
Collect - Preserve - Explore - Present
The Museum Burg Mylau is also committed to these focal points of museum work. In addition to preserving the collections that have survived to this day and continuing to develop them professionally, research and presentation also take centre stage.
